About Dongcheng

Dongcheng was at the centre of the ancient capital of China for almost 700 years. It acted as capital during the Yuan Dynasty (1271 to 1368), the Ming Dynasty (1368 to 1644) and the Qing Dynasty (1644 to 1911).

Beijing's famed Forbidden City is located in Dongcheng District. Several important historical sites are located there too, including the Imperial College, the Palace Museum, and the Yonghe Lamasery.

Beijing Railway Station is located in Dongcheng.

The famous (or infamous) Tiananmen Square is also in Dongcheng.
