Beijing's Climate

Beijing's climate is humid continental or continental monsoon. Total annual rainfall is 620 mm (24.4 inches).

Hot, Wet Summers

Beijing has hot, wet summers characterised by high humidity levels and frequent heavy rain - particularly in July and August when the East Asian monsoon strikes. Over 60 percent of Beijing's annual rainfall falls in July and August.

The combination of heat and humidity in the summer months makes most people feel very uncomfortable and air conditioning is strongly recommended during these months.

Cold, Dry, Windy Summers

In contrast to its hot, wet summers, Beijing's winters are cold, sunny, windy and dry.

Beijing enjoys the same amount of sunshine each day in January as July.

Pleasant Spring and Autumn/Fall

If you can choose the season you visit Beijing, visiting in spring or autumn/fall will almost certainly provide the most comfortable conditions. Temperatures are moderate and there is abundant sunshine. Beijing's frost-free season averages 180 to 200 days each year.
